NEW DELHI: It began with a kidnapping drama in Mumbai but ended up being a wellness retreat gone wrong. A Versova-based builder, identified as Chandrakant Bhunu , was dramatically "abducted" on Sunday night, but he was not taken to any remote area, instead he was traced to a rehabilitation centre in Vasai.
And the punchline is: the "kidnappers" were actually employees of the rehab, hired by the businessman's first wife.
The night of abduction
According to news agency PTI, police said that Bhunu's second wife, Afsana Arab, lodged a complaint saying that four men stormed into their Four Bungalows home and abducted her husband.
She suspected a property dispute with Bhunu's son from his first marriage and reported a kidnapping. Citywide manhunt was launched as cops swung into action.
The search ended at a serene rehab centre in Palghar, where Bhunu was found "recovering."
Plot twist
It turned out that Bhunu's first wife had mastered the "operation," instructing the rehab staff to pick him up for his own good.
"It wasn't a kidnapping, it was an intervention," a police official told PTI, adding that the first wife was concerned about his alcoholism.
