The Chase star Anne Hegerty has been forced to explain her comments about Charlie Kirk to try and satisfy "idiot" critics who blasted her for a "stupid and misinformed" post. Now the quizzer, who is known as The Governess on the ITV show, has made herself perfectly clear in a number of follow-up posts on X (Twitter) since the original.
The conservative commentator, 31, died on September 10 after being shot in the neck at an event at Utah Valley University. Anne later weighed in with her personal thoughts but it resulted in a fiery debate among her 148,000 X followers. She wrote: "I had never heard of Charlie Kirk before Wednesday night. Had we met, my end of the conversation would have been 'You just said WHAT?' and 'Scuse me, those are my FRIENDS you're talking about.'" She then clarified: "I join Bernie Sanders in deploring his murder."

But fans were not impressed with her views. One wrote: "Anne, look at his debates before making assumptions - P.S. your head is big." The Chaser responded: "I know, it always has been. In the jungle, I had the second largest hat size."
Another person wrote: "You've never heard of him yet you make stupid assumptions... There's nothing he says that is controversial if you actually take time to listen."
Anne replied again, saying: "You know, Americans, this kind of hair-trigger angriness and sensitivity and telling people to stop talking is exactly why you get people doing this sort of thing in the first place. Why not try taking the temperature down a bit?"
Other fans said that the Chaser should have avoided the topic entirely. One said: "If you've never heard of him before Wednesday, you probably should just sit this one out." Another added: "This is a terribly misinformed post and you should really take it down."

Following the backlash, she has now issued a blistering response to her critics, branding them "idiots" and making her stance on the subject blatantly clear.
Referring to Kirk's suspected killer, Anne shared another post which read: "I hope Tyler Robinson gets the death penalty IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU #idiots".
However, that just incited further criticism so she reiterated herself once more. She penned: "Let's try this, shall we? 'I had never heard of Charlie Kirk before Wed night. SO NATURALLY I THEN WENT AND READ ABOUT HIM, AS YOU WOULD EXPECT ME TO DO.
"Had we met, my end of the conversation would have been 'You just said WHAT?' and 'Scuse me, those are my FRIENDS you're talking about.' HAVING SAID THAT, I join Bernie Sanders in deploring his murder.' Did I ACTUALLY need to add the bits in capitals before you realised that was what I was saying? Utter morons."
