Rasmus Hojlund's stance on AC Milan transfer with Man Utd ready to sell striker

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is open to a move to AC Milan. United are optimistic about striking a deal with Milan, who are in the process of revamping their squad under the guidance of returning coach Massimiliano Allegri. Despite finishing eighth last season and missing out on European qualification, the Serie A giants remain an attractive prospect.

However, it is uncertain whether a permanent transfer will materialise as United value Hojlund at approximately £30million and Milan are more interested in a loan agreement for the 22-year-old. Hojlund, who is only two years into his five-year contract at United, had been earmarked for sale by the club if they manage to secure a new centre-forward.

And Benjamin Sesko was unveiled to the Old Trafford crowd during the pre-season friendly draw against Fiorentina on Saturday, following his £73.62m arrival from RB Leipzig, which means Hojlund is free to leave.

In the 1-1 draw, Hojlund found himself an unused substitute - the first time he didn't feature in any of United's five pre-season games. Manager Ruben Amorim opted to start Mason Mount as an auxiliary striker, after previously playing Matheus Cunha in that position in the 2-2 draw with Everton six days prior.

Hojlund is thought to be unhappy with United's apparent push to move him on, having stated just 12 days ago that he wished to stay at the club. However, Amorim has declined to publicly guarantee that Hojlund will remain at United.

With the 2026 World Cup looming, Hojlund has netted just once in his last 16 outings for Denmark and was relegated to the bench for their recent qualifier against Lithuania. A move to Milan could help him restore his status internationally.

United snapped up Hojlund from Atalanta in a whopping £72m deal back in July 2023, despite initially planning not to exceed the £60m mark for their new striker. Hojlund has since found the back of the net 26 times in 95 matches for the club.

A move to Milan would be a homecoming of sorts for Hojlund, given that the city is merely 40 kilometres away from Bergamo, where his old club Atalanta are based.
