In a major international expansion move, India’s leading healthcare provider Narayana Health has entered the UK market by acquiring Practice Plus Group Hospitals, one of Britain’s largest private healthcare networks. The deal, valued at approximately ₹2,200 crore (£188.78 million), marks a significant milestone in Narayana Health’s global growth strategy.
With this acquisition, Narayana Health gains control over 12 hospitals and surgical centers across the UK, specializing in orthopedic, ophthalmology, and general surgeries. Practice Plus Group performs around 80,000 surgeries annually and ranks as the fifth-largest private hospital chain in the United Kingdom. This partnership gives Narayana Health direct access to the UK’s growing surgical care market and strengthens its position as one of India’s top three healthcare companies.
Shared Vision for Affordable Healthcare
Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Practice Plus Group Hospitals into the Narayana Health family. Both organizations share a common mission — to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for everyone. This partnership will help us bring our collective strengths together to serve patients better.”
Echoing this sentiment, Jim Easton, CEO of Practice Plus Group, said, “Dr. Shetty and Narayana Health are globally respected for their compassionate and patient-centric approach. We’re proud to join hands with them and look forward to leveraging our combined expertise to enhance healthcare delivery across the UK.”
Narayana Health’s Expanding Global Footprint
Headquartered in Bengaluru, Narayana Health operates multiple hospitals across India and the Caribbean, employing over 18,000 professionals, including 3,800 doctors. The group’s focus remains on high-quality medical treatment, patient care, and cost efficiency.
The healthcare major also runs subsidiaries such as Narayana One Health (NH Integrated Care) and Narayana Health Insurance, which focus on integrated medical services and insurance solutions.
