If looks like the Barn is going to catch fire on the final day of Glorious Goodwood. Don’t panic – no arsonists are loose on the Sussex Downs, but BARNSO (1.55) should make hay while the sun shines.

The weather hasn’t always been so good this week and the prospect of easier ground won’t bother this Irish import. He makes his debut for Alan King having joined the Wiltshire trainer following a promising fourth in the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot for Natalia Lupini.

That was even better than it looked as he was the only runner to make any impression after racing up with the pace. Have 2pts each-way at 16-1. Sky Bet is paying out on five places.

STRIKE RED (3.05) ran well when sixth in last year’s Coral Stewards’ Cup and Richard Fahey’s sprinter is back to have another crack at this prestigious handicap.

He’ll enjoy the slower ground and he looked to be running into form when first home of those drawn on the unfavoured stands’ side at York last week.

There’s little doubt he is nicely treated on his best form from last season and his trainer is starting to hit form after a difficult first half of the season. Have 1pt each-way at 16-1. Sky Bet is offering seven places.

SPIRIT OF FARHH (3.45) has a great record away from fast ground. In-form Eve Johnson Houghton’s runner battled on well to see off Waiting All Night with the pair well clear at Newmarket two weeks ago. Now he gets softer conditions he has the potential to keep on improving. Have 1pt each-way at 20-1. A couple of bookies are going six places.

David Menuisier has endured a tough season but there are signs he’s turning the corner. He had a winner here at his local track on Wednesday and he has a course specialist on his side in the shape of TOIMY SON (4.55).

Like many from this stable he has not been at his best this year but he won the Golden Mile from a wide draw at this meeting 12 months ago.

He looks ready for this longer distance. Have 1pt each-way at 10-1. Most firms are offering five places.
