Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans splits from fiancée weeks after proposing

Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has announced his split from his fiancée Liz Brookes, just a few weeks after proposing to her during a romantic trip to Morocco.

The Welsh opera singer hinted that his relationship was "not healthy" in a Facebook Live he streamed this morning (June 2), and admitted he is already getting back out there.

Speculation about the couple’s split began last month when fans noticed Wynne had deleted his engagement post from Instagram and unfollowed Liz on social media. Now, it appears the relationship has ended for good.

Insiders told the Daily Mail the break up was instigated by how busy Wynne has been since he decided to open his own restaurant in his hometown, Carmarthen, alongside starting his own radio show, which will be based in the eatery.

The source said: "Wynne and Liz broke off their engagement a few weeks ago. The pressure of his new business ventures took its toll and they had a big fallout. Initially, there was a belief they would get back together when the ill-feeling died down, as they had split before and managed to patch things up.

"But with Wynne actively trying to date again and going public describing the relationship as ‘not healthy’, it’s safe to say they’ve split for good this time." The Mirror has contacted Wynne Evans' representatives for comment.

Liz, who runs a successful events company in Wales, first met Wynne in 2024 when he performed at one of her firm’s corporate functions. She was a regular in the audience during his Strictly run, often cheering him on and sharing supportive messages on social media.

Wynne had previously praised Liz for helping him get more into fitness before his appearance on the BBC show, telling a podcast host: "I go out running with my girlfriend and stuff and I feel much better for it".

Wynne proposed to Liz in June, sharing the moment on Instagram with a series of photos, including a close-up of her engagement ring. At the time, he captioned the post: "Big news… I got engaged! This weekend in Morocco, somewhere between the couscous, the camels, and me limping around the souks like a man with no spatial awareness, I proposed to Liz — and she said yes! (No take-backs, I've checked.)

"She’s clever, she’s kind, she’s got excellent taste in men. Absolutely no idea how I pulled that off, but here we are! Feeling very lucky, very happy, and just a tiny bit smug."

The couple's breakup comes during a turbulent year for the Go Compare star, who was dropped by the BBC earlier this year after making a controversial "spit roast" comment during the Strictly live tour. Although Wynne later said the term referred to fellow contestant Jamie Borthwick and not presenter Janette Manrara as was reported at the time, he claimed he was forced to apologise and has since parted ways with BBC Radio Wales.

He has since launched his own online radio show and opened a wine bar and restaurant called Welsh House by Wynne, which he promised would have MasterChef dishes on the menu as a nod to his time on the baking show.
