The UK government has expanded its Electric Car Grant (ECG) to include over half a dozen more models, encouraging Brit motorists to join the electric revolution and switch to cleaner, greener transport.
The scheme, which is backed by £650 million of funding, applies to EVs priced at under £37,000, allowing buyers to save money at the point of purchase. The ECG offers two levels of discount available, depending on the model.
When an EV is assessed as Band 1, buyers receive the maximum grant of £3,750, while cars in Band 2 are eligible for a reduction of £1,500. Discounts are applied automatically when purchasing a qualifying model, meaning that customers don't need to claim themselves.

The government's plans for EV expansion go beyond direct purchase incentives, with officials also revealed that an additional 100,000 public charging points are scheduled to be installed across the UK within the next year to accompany the 83,000 chargers already in operation, all in an effort to make EV ownership more practical and widespread.
The Department for Transport (DfT) confirmed the latest additions to the scheme are:
- Toyota Proace City Verso
- Toyota bZ4X
- Skoda Elroq
- Skoda Enyaq
- Peugeot e-Traveller
- Vauxhall Vivaro Life Electric

All of these receive the lower grant of £1,500. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: "Our Electric Car Grant is slashing prices for consumers, putting thousands of pounds back into people’s pockets, whilst powering up growth and supporting jobs as part of Plan of Change.
"By cutting upfront costs and boosting our charging infrastructure, we're helping more people become EV owners, backing industry and delivering on our promise to make the UK a clean energy superpower."
