'Terror Has No Religion': Sanjay Raut Counters Amit Shah's 'Hindu Can Never Be Terrorist' Remark

Mumbai: Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday sharply countered Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in the Rajya Sabha that 'a Hindu can never be a terrorist,' stating that terrorism has no religion, caste, or community. “Even Pakistan calls Kulbhushan Yadav a Hindu terrorist. We don’t accept that. The government must tell Pakistan he is our citizen and get him released, instead of making such sweeping generalisations,” Raut said, making it the strongest opposition reaction to Shah’s claim.

Amit Shah's Controversial Remarks In Rajya Sabha

Raut’s remarks came a day after Shah, while speaking during a discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, said 'Hindus can never be terrorists' and accused the Congress of coining the 'Hindu terror' narrative for political gain. Shah said that under the Modi government, India has shifted from 'sending dossiers' to taking direct action through air strikes and military operations.

Shah had slammed the Congress for what he called 'years of appeasement politics' that allowed terrorism to grow. He accused former Home Minister P. Chidambaram of downplaying Pakistan’s role in the recent Baisaran Valley attack and questioned the Congress’s commitment to national security. “In his tenure, even Afzal Guru wasn’t hanged,” Shah pointed out, also citing the Digvijaya Singh-led allegation that the RSS was behind the 26/11 attacks.

Terrorism On Decline Under PM Modi's Leadership: Amit Shah

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Shah said, “Terrorism is now nearing its decline. Between 2004 and 2014, India saw over 7,200 terror incidents. From 2015 to 2025, that number has dropped to around 2,150, nearly a 70 per cent fall.” He added that in the last six months, no Kashmiri youth has joined a terror outfit and all militants neutralised have been Pakistani nationals.
