A cloudburst in Tharali tehsil of Chamoli district late Friday night triggered heavy debris flow, damaging houses, markets, and the residence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), officials said on Saturday.
Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said two people have been reported missing following the incident. “District Magistrate and relief teams have rushed to the spot,” he said.
Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said the extent of damage is likely to be significant. “A lot of debris has come due to the cloudburst, which has completely damaged several houses, including the SDM’s residence,” he said.
Rescue and relief operations are underway, and authorities are assessing the damage in the affected areas.
