Nizamabad (Telangana) [India], October 26 (ANI): Former MLC and Telangana Jagruthi President K Kavitha on Sunday asked the eight BJP MPs in the state to resign to get the Governor and President's assent for the 42 per cent Backwards Class reservation in local body polls.
Speaking to ANI, Kavitha held the BJP responsible for the BC reservation not being implemented in the state.
She said, "The BJP is responsible for this. The bill for the BC reservation has been passed in the Assembly and is pending with the Governor. It is pending with the President of India. It will be passed in both these places when the BJP takes a political decision."
"Today, the BJP is running a minority government at the Centre. It is dependent on Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar. Therefore, I am demanding that if all our Telangana BJP MPs resign and come to Telangana, the BC Bill will automatically come to Telangana. These eight BJP MPs should resign immediately," the Telangana Jagruthi leader said.
Last month, the Telangana Government ordered the provision of 42 per cent reservation of seats and positions in local bodies for Backward Classes in the State, the Chief Minister's office said in a press release.
The Bill sparked a political row in the state, with CM Revanth Reddy also visiting New Delhi in August seeking the President's assent to the Bill.
However, on October 16, the Supreme Court dismissed the Telangana government's plea challenging the Telangana High Court's stay on 42 per cent Backwards Class reservation in local body elections.
The decision came as a setback for the Congress government in Telangana, which had moved to the SC after the Telangana HC's stay.
The High Court had granted an interim stay on the notification for local body elections in the state.
The bench allowed petitions challenging the state government's order providing 42 per cent reservation to the Backward Classes in local bodies.
Ordering the stay, the two-judge bench gave the petitioner four weeks to file a counter-affidavit, and the government has been given two weeks to respond. (ANI)
