Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz Arsenal injury latest as 'surgery' claim made

Send Push

Mikel Arteta has numerous Arsenal injury worries with just two Premier League games of the season completed. Both of those were wins and clean sheets for the Gunners, but the fitness issues that have arrived may outweigh that early success.

Even before the clash against Manchester United, Christian Norgaard emerged as an injury doubt. Kai Havertz and Ben White then both suffered problems in that 1-0 win at Old Trafford which ruled them out of last weekend's visit of newly-promoted Leeds United.

Following the unveiling of Eberechi Eze at Emirates Stadium prior to kick-off, the mood was very high, but that quickly turned whenBukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard were forced off with hamstring and shoulder problems, respectively.

With all that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest injury news and updates on the five Arsenal star currently carrying issues.

Bukayo Saka

Having missed several months last season because of a hamstring injury, there would have been an understandable concern when Saka pulled up clutching the back of his leg. Thankfully, at the very least, it is not a recurrence of that injury as it was his other hamstring which required surgery.

It has been reported in The Guardianthat Saka's injury is not as bad as first feared, with the BBCadding he's set to miss up to four weeks with the injury.

What Arteta has said: "Bukayo, while he was running with the ball, carrying the ball, wrestling with the defender, he felt something in his hamstring. So let's see. I think it's the other one. It's not the same one as the previous injury.

"He felt something while he was sprinting. That's never a good sign.

"We'll have to wait tomorrow [Sunday]. Speak to the doctors as well and understand better what he does. But he's had these injuries before. He knows exactly the feeling of that. So let's wait."

Possible return date: September/October

Martin Odegaard

Considering this was an impact issue for Odegaard, the hope will have been that he is unlikely to miss a significant period and football.london understands his injury isn't as bad as first thought. The expectation is that he will be fit to face Liverpool this weekend.

What Arteta has said: "So, Martin felt something in his shoulder when he landed. We don't know. We'll have to scan him tomorrow and understand a bit better."

Possible return date: Liverpool (A) - Sunday, August 31

Kai Havertz

It's unclear how long Havertz will be out for with the knee injury picked up against Man Utd. However, it certainly does not seem minor with Leandro Trossard signing a new contract and Eze being signed.

According to The Standard, it is still being weighed up whether or not the 26-year-old will require surgery - with Germany national team director Rudi Voller ruling him out of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Northern Ireland.

"We don's know exactly how it will go in the coming weeks, whether surgery is upcoming or it will be treated conservatively," he said.

What Arteta has said: "He's certainly not fit for this match [vs Leeds], unfortunately.

"We don't really know yet the extent of it. I think we need a bit more time and some more tests and - after that - we will have more clarity about the next steps. Now, he's got a setback, let's see how bad it is."

Possible return date: Unknown

Ben White

White was replaced by Jurrien Timber in the starting XI to face Leeds on Saturday evening. It doesn't look to be a major injury with Arteta having not even ruled him out of last weekend's win.

What Arteta has said: "With Ben, let's see..."

Possible return date: Liverpool (A) - Sunday, August 31

Christian Norgaard

Norgaard is yet to make his competitive debut for Arsenal having picked up what looks to be a minor injury. The hope is that will come before the first international break, but it seems more likely it will be after.

What Arteta has said: "Christian won't be in the squad [vs Leeds]. [He] will be out for another week or so."

Possible return date: Nottingham Forest (H) - Saturday, September 13

Gabriel Jesus

After suffering a serious knee injury back in January, Gabriel Jesus isn't expected back until later this year.

Possible return date: October/November
